Roscommon Racecourse stages its final fixture of the year on Monday next, the 1st of October with the first race due off at 2:05 pm.
It’s been a great year for racing at Roscommon and the curtain will come down on racing here this year, when we host our final fixture of the season on Monday, the 1st of October.
Racing gets underway at 2.05pm, and we have an eight-race all national hunt card. The feature event is the €40,000 Grade 3 Ballymore Irish EBF Novice Steeplechase. Speaking about the Race Racecourse Manager Michael Finneran said “We have been trying to attract some cross-channel interest for this fixture and I’m optimistic that will happen. It would great if we had a runner or two from England for what has developed into a very important novice chase.”
“The track looks in great shape and now is the time that some of the winter horses start to reappear and we’d expect some very good horses to run here next week” he added.
Our other race sponsors next Monday are The family of the late Peggy Guerin RIP, Service Matters, Roscommon On-Course Vets, At the Races and the Irish Stallion Farms EBF. The best turned out prize is sponsored by J & A Gately Building Stone.
Looking back on the season gone by Mr. Finneran said “I’d like to thank all our sponsors, some of whom have been with us for a long time and the good weather ensured that every fixture this year was well attended. We have a very loyal band of sponsors who come back year after year and this year we have some new sponsors also.
“Our final fixture of the year will be a significant one, as it will the last meeting that the present building at the road end will be used at Roscommon.”
“A major revamp will commence once Monday’s meeting concludes. This work has been in the pipeline for a number of years, but due to financial constraints, our board felt that we were not in a position until now, to proceed with this work. The new structure will add greatly to the facilities for service providers and the jockeys at Roscommon Racecourse.”
“We do hope that you can come and enjoy some racing” he concluded.
There is music in the main bar after the second last race with Henry & The Usual Suspects and as usual there is the Race Card Draw with prizes of free bets up for grabs.
